Materials, making & care

  • Leather: susatinably sourced Kangaroo—remarkable strength-to-weight, so straps stay slim, soft and durable.
  • Sourcing: LWG-certified tannery (current Silver), on-site solar, chemical testing, ≥40% water recycling.
  • Wild-harvest: Not farmed; taken from large, self-replenishing populations; skins are a food-industry by-product.
  • Management: State quotas under the federal EPBC framework; species/zone surveys set annually and reported publicly.
  • Abundance: National populations are robust; managed use shows no adverse effect on the four harvested species.
  • Eco-printing: Real botanicals, steamed on mordanted leather—plant-made prints, not paint.
  • One-of-one: Each piece is unique; tiny freckles and tone shifts are part of the charm.
  • Testing: Independent PFI (Germany) Chromium VI test—REACH limit pass (DIN EN ISO 17075-2).
  • Hardware: Solid brass—strong now, warm patina later.
  • Care basics: Wipe lightly, air-dry in shade, condition sparingly; suede → protector spray, not balm.

About kangaroo leather

Why kangaroo leather
Kangaroo leather pairs unusual tensile strength with featherweight feel. That lets us cut slimmer, softer straps that still hold their shape and stand up to adventure—comfort without bulk.

Sourcing & sustainability
We work with an Australian tannery carrying an LWG Silver rating. Their program includes on-site solar, formal chemical testing, and continuous water recycling (≥40%) across production. It’s quality you can feel and credentials we can stand behind.

Wild-harvest, not farmed
Hides come from wild-harvested kangaroos taken from large, self-replenishing populations. Only four common species are eligible, and skins are a by-product of the food industry—no feedlots, no land clearing.

Government-managed quotas
Commercial harvest operates under state management plans approved within the federal EPBC wildlife-trade framework. Annual quotas are set by species and zone using population surveys and are reported publicly.

Abundance & conservation
Australia’s kangaroo populations remain abundant nationally. Long-term monitoring referenced by industry and state programs shows no adverse effect on the four harvested species under managed use.

Materials & making

Eco-printing (plant-made prints)
We lay pressed botanicals on mordanted kangaroo leather, then gently steam so pigments and tannins bond into the fibres. The result is a permanent botanical impression—depth and nuance you can’t paint on.

One-of-a-kind, by design
No two are alike. Each piece is catalogued with a celestial name and unique serial number. Because everything is handmade, small freckles, veining and subtle tone shifts are normal—signs of the process, not flaws.

Allergies & testing
Pigments are bonded within the leather; no loose plant matter sits on the surface. After printing, the leather is thoroughly washed and neutralised. An independent test by PFI (Prüf- und Forschungsinstitut Pirmasens e.V., Germany) confirmed a Chromium VI REACH limit pass (method DIN EN ISO 17075-2). View the test report →

Hardware
We specify solid brass for strength and longevity. It will develop a gentle patina with time; a quick polish restores the glow.

Care guide

Clean
Wipe with a barely damp cloth. Use a mild leather cleaner sparingly and test on an inconspicuous spot first. Always air-dry in the shade; keep away from heaters and direct sun.

Caught in the rain
Pat dry, reshape, and air-dry. If exposed to salt or chlorinated water, wipe with a damp cloth before drying fully.

Condition
For smooth leather, apply a small amount of neutral balm occasionally; avoid over-conditioning and keep balm off stitching and hardware. For suede, use a protector spray (no balm). We like Renapur Leather Balsam (smooth) and Renapur Suede & Fabric Protector for a low-odour option.

Suede (nap care). Dry-brush to restore a flat nap: use a soft suede brush, lift the fibres with short strokes, then finish in one direction to lay the nap smooth. For light marks, use a suede eraser; avoid liquid cleaners. Finish with a light mist of protector spray—never use balm on suede.

Colour transfer
In normal use, colour does not rub off—it’s bonded within the leather. Avoid wearing while wet.

Storage
Store clean and dry. Use the provided box to help the bow hold its shape and ensure the harness is fully dry before boxing.
